Looking for recs of small family run hotels in the historic centers of Bologna and Parma. We prefer simple over luxurious; great breakfasts and nearby neighborhood trattorias are a huge plus. We're traveling by train and packing light and stairs aren't a problem. Any places you all recommend?
Hi Marcus, In Parma I booked Pio Rooms B+B for last September but my travel plans ended up changing and I had to skip Parma. When I go back to finally see Parma I plan to book there again. The proprietor, Massimo, was very helpful by email with information about directions from the train station, restaurants, and local guides for food tours. I believe he only has a few rooms to rent so obviously it books up quickly!
For Parma, we use AirBnB's, but when choosing a hotel I would suggest choosing one that is east of the river.
In Bologna, Albergo Centrale. Great location near Pizza Maggiore, nice breakfast. Either two or three star hotel. We enjoyed our stay.
