I'm looking for hotels in Bari and Matera. I usually follow Rick Steves recommendations but he does not cover southern Italy in his guide books.
We are looking for something in the city center and not an airbnb.
Any help would be appreciated.
The best source for hotels is booking.com, with reviews and ratings by actual guests [we look for 8.5 and above]. Any by Steves you should check here also.
Matera I would not stay in the city center but in the old section. We found something on booking.com in Matera and it was wonderful.
Matera. Through booking.com. We stayed at Residence Del Casanova. A past glory hotel in old style. A classic. Rooms were OK. But, this was the caveat, for breakfast we sat outside right on the edge of the canyon for a magnificent view. Well worth it just for that.
You could walk the wall easily from there as that is where the public access to that walk starts.
Have a look at La dolce vita B&B on Trip advisor. They get great reviews. We stayed there in 2012 and the hosts were lovely. Vincenzo even drove us to pick up our rental car & drew us a map for driving out of town. They have a website, so book with them directly & you will likely save some money. They are located in the old town.
We arrived in Bari via the ferry from Dubrovnik, but didn’t stay there. We had a private driver take us directly to the B&B in Matera.
