Hotels/Apartments in Rome

I have never been to Rome and will be traveling in November (staying for 7 nights). Where is a good hotel to stay in? I want a cheap ($40-$60) but nice hotel. Not too fancy, just a safe place to rest with everything close by. :) Also, would it be best to stay at an apartment? I've heard good things but I'm not sure.

So you want a nice hotel near everything for 25E to 40E? I've never seen anything priced that low in Rome, even in November. Are you traveling alone?

At this moment, three other people have asked the same basic question, and their posts are right below your own.

*Venice or Rome and where to stay

*Honeymooning on a budget in Italy - Where to stay?

*Rome Hotel

Look these over for Rome hotel possibilities. Also, visit the venere.com and tripadvisor.com websites. And finally, look on this very website - click "Plan Your Trip", then "Italy", then "Andy Steves Rome Sleeps".

Have you bought or at least read Rick's book on Rome? There are hotel recommendations in there.

It would help to say what is "cheap" to you in terms of Euros. I have found that what is cheap to one person is still a little expensive to others. Everyone's budget is different.

also try the trip advisor site on-line.. call up Rome and start with the list of top 10 that shows up.. email the hotels for price quotes, and then go from there. TA has traveler's photos also so you can see what it really looks like.

What worked for me is to get a list of 2 or 3 and then post them here to see if anyone has stayed in them and what their thoughts were on the hotel and location

good luck and have a great trip.

Recently, in Rome I stayed the The Beehive Hotel offsite apartments-large, bright and clean. 70E per night, shared bath, full kitchen. 5 minutes from the Termini station.

Safe and budget accommodations in good locations can be found at convents in Rome. Check santasusanna.org and monasterystays.com.

Hi Wendy
Hotels in Rome are pretty expensive even in the off season. In the price range you require you will need to make a number of compromises--- particularly "everything close by". You may find something outside of Rome or a hostel if you don't mind sharing a dorm room. We just got back from Rome on Saturday and stayed at a lovely convent across from the Vatican. It was 68 euro per night with shared bath. We also stayed at a lovely Apartment owned by Piero and Marina Ferri near the Colesseum which was wonderful and which I would unreservedly recommend to anyone for ammenities, thoughtful and kind owners and location. It was 170 euro per night for two couples. You might also look into B and B's away from the city center.
