hotel & travel 0600 am plane from Rome/Fiumicino??

Hello, this is my first forum post, please be merciful.

We had to change our travel plans and the only flight from Rome > Boston we could get departs at 0600 hours on Friday 23 May 2025.

I am seeking advice about Fiumicino airport, all related to our 0600 plane flight:
1) accommodations at/near the airport -- we will ask about checkin and departure
2) travel to/from Fiumicino airport -- e.g. what kinds of hours can we do this??

We can readily get to Fiumicino from Assisi to return our rental car at the airport.

Then hopefully have time/opportunity to go back into Rome (30-45 minutes each way??) and walk around, eat, see what we can, then return to Fiumicino as late as possible before waking up again to get on the plane.

IF the above is possible we need a place/way to keep our luggage safe (2 items apiece, 2 of us).

Or maybe it is possible to wait several hours in the airport?? (not likely but asking anyway)

I'm seeking advice on places to stay, how to manage transportation, etc.

Cheaper the better. We can sleep some more on the plane!!

My first post on this topic turned into a 404 so I hope this post works...I emailed the webmaster but they say 1-2 days before they reply, sigh...I don't know what I did that made it disappear into a 404.

Thank you, Tom

Hi Tom, Welcome to the forum. Rome Fiumicino Airport is in the town of Fiumicino and so a lot of travelers just stay in Fiumicino the night before their flight home. Hotel rates in Fiumicino are reasonable ( many under $100) especially compared with hotel rates in Rome. www.Booking.com is where I would start looking for hotels.
FCO is open 24/7 so you can enter the airport at any time.

I would return the rental car the day before your flight and then explore Rome before your flight home.
You can take the last Leonardo Express train (€14) out to FCO from Rome Termini train station at 22:30 ( 10:30 pm). The trains run every 15 minutes and take about 30 minutes. The Leonardo Express train will not be running after 22:30 until 5:35am— so, you will need to be in Fiumicino the night before your flight unless you want to spend a lot of money on a hotel in Rome & a taxi out to the airport.
And nobody wants to do THAT!
Cheers!

The closest hotel is Hilton Rome Airport, connected by a walkway to Terminal 2. You can check booking.com for others. If you are driving into town from Assissi the day before departure, I would suggest first checking into your hotel . Even if your room isn't ready, they can hold your luggage. Then drop off the car. Then take the Leonardo Express to Termini. Return later that evening. I believe the last train from Termini is around 2230 hrs. Or take a taxi.

I would do as C Jean advises and stay at the airport Hilton
Fixed rate taxi to/from FCO to center of Rome is 55 euros

How many are in your party ?
Is your flight going directly to Boston or does it connect somewhere else in Europe?

The Hilton is not a good idea. FCO Hilton is running more than $350 for May 22. www.Booking.com has several Airport-close accommodations for around $100.
Have a great trip!

Check out the Hotel Tiber in Fiumicino- full service hotel. Has a nice restaurant and will arrange transportation to FCO - it’s only about 10 mins away. They are geared to travellers. Has been well recommended for some years on this Forum.

The Hilton Garden Inn is approximately $100 cheaper. But even Hotel Tiber, which is often mentioned here on the forum, is at $200. So peak season - plus the US dollar is down almost 10% vs the Euro, which doesn't help. For that hour in the morning, be sure to factor in the cost of transportation back to the airport.

Edited to correct percentage change in USD- EUR rate.

I’ve stayed at Hotel Tiber. Transport to the airport day of travel was very easy. It was reasonably priced. Also, I’ve made a reso at B&B Hotel #1. It is also very reasonably priced and the airport shuttle is 6eu.

If your flight departs that early, it’s almost certainly not a non stop to Boston, but probably the TAP flight to Lisbon or the AF flight to Paris, from which you will probably have to connect to the Boston bound flight. Since it’s an Intra-Schengen area flight, you don’t need to be at the airport 3 hours ahead, 2 hours will be more than sufficient. Nevertheless it’s still early, so I’d stay at the Hilton airport, or, if too expensive on that night, as close as possible to the airport.

I have the same issue and I just booked a one night stay at “La Magnolia 140” a family-run B & B 2.7 km and/or 4 min by car to Rome Fiumicino airport. On booking.com, it has an overall rating of 9.6 out of 10 (540 reviews).

Is it luxury? No but for 1 night before my flight that’s not needed. Reviews indicate it’s quiet , clean, convenient ——and it’s more affordable than the airport hotel. I’m paying $138 for 2 people w option to cancel. They will assist me in getting a 6:30 am taxi. I’m crossing my fingers and hoping for the best.

PS Read the booking.com comments. Comments on booking.com also indicate willing to accommodate late check ins and very early departures. The comments also specifically mention that if you ask, you can drop your luggage off there before dropping off your rental car and can check in later after spending time at the beach or in the city. Good luck!
