Has anyone stayed at the Hotel Trastevere in Rome lately? Do you recommend it? Any particular rooms to pick or to avoid? Thanks....
I will be able to reply in a couple months, I booked 10 nights for the end of February, based on location and positive reviews. The hotel was remodeled a few years ago, and the staff has been responsive to e-mail.
Have you read the reviews in tripadvisor? sounds like a great place!
Based on the looking that I did, the Hotel is near a Tram line that goes in one direction to the Trastevere station to get to Termini or other stations, or the other way across the river to central Rome. Near the river, there is also a bus route that heads to the Vatican. So with a little effort, everything is close by using public transport.
Thanks, guys....Yes, I always check TravelAdvisor & Venere as well as this site. The only negatives I've found relate to being further from most of the sites, but others mentioned being 15 or 20 min. away, which doesn't sound bad.
Thanks, Paul. That helps. So speaking of public transportation, is there a cheap way to get 7 people from FCO airport to Trastevere? (The hotel offers a shuttle for 88 euros, but I'm wondering if we can beat that). All info appreciated....
88 euros for 7 people (total, right?) is a STEAL!!! If you try to do the Metro and then a tram with seven people and all your bags, you'll be starting your visit off in a really bad way. It looks to me as if you hotel is not actually on the tram line, but is several blocks away. 12 euros per person would get you door-to-door with no headaches. It would be an easy call for me.
Thanks, Michael...I had a momentary mental lapse & was only focusing on the $132+ rather than the # of ppl. I definitely need to reconfirm that price, as it's cheaper than the train!
Look for information on taxis as well. Rome implemented a flat fee from the Airport to central Rome of 40 or 50 Euros. For 8, the shuttle may still be cheaper, but check a couple options.
Has anyone used www.taketaxi.com or www.romecabs.com? Both are showing transfers from FCO to Rome for 70 euros for 7 people. Romecabs was recommended on a tripadvisor forum.
