Hotel suggestions for Siena - must stay near townhall/il Campo

Can anyone recommend a good hotel or B&B in Siena that is near the townhall/main square (il Campo)? We're getting married there in early September and we will be getting dressed for the ceremony (i.e. wedding gown, tuxedo) in the hotel room and then walking to the townhall for the ceremony (townhall is in the main square, il Campo). Since it will probably be rather warm (right?) we'd like to stay as close to the townhall as possible. (Plus, she'll likely be in heals of some kind, so the less walking the better). AC would be really great to have too. Our budget allows for about $100-$200 (maaaybe as high as $250) per night (for two people). We certainly don't expect a 5-star accomodation for that price, but would like it to be as nice and quiet as possible. Any suggestions? Thanks.

Antica Residenza Cicogna is a lovely B&B about a 4 minute walk from il Campo. Has AC and lovely people, decent size rooms, well within your price range.

WOW!!! Could you hold off until the 22nd? I'd love to be your flower girl...;-) I'll be thinking of the two of you while I'm there... Congratulations!!! (I was going to recommend two places to you that I've stayed in, but perhaps they've gone down a bit...although some of the reviewers sounded a bit whiny......) Oh, A/C is a MUST!!! Don't even consider anything else!!! It's your wedding/honeymoon, and wedding dresses and tuxedos are hot ;-)

Eileen, as luck would have it we're leaving on the 23rd. Otherwise you would've been more than welcome! ;-) I am a bit concerned about the heat. Being from Seattle we don't even see many days above 80, and very little humidity, so we're not exactly aclimated to the heat of Italy. I'm hoping it'll be a bit cooler there in September, but from what I can gather from reading other posts on this site that's not a sure thing at all. So I think you're right about the A/C - I'd hate to show up to my own wedding in a pool of sweat. ;-) Being close to the square will be key, I think.

Laurel, We are considering Antica Residenza Cicogna. We are a bit concerned about staying within the walls since we will have a rental car (even though they do have arrangements to park). Did you have a vehicle with you on your visit? If so, how easy/hard was it to get around from this b&b? (Question is open to anyone who has stayed there).... Thanks!

Bob, Congratulations. Siena seems like a perfect choice for a wedding. I wasn't sure if you're leaving on the 23rd because the festivities will have then been over shortly before the 23rd or you will have been around Siena for a while because your wedding is in eraly September. We'll be there from approximately 6 September through 12 September at the Palazzo Ravizza and we Seattle folks would love to drink a toast to you.

Ted:
Antica Res. Cicogna has a parking space about a 10 minute walk from the B&B. Ask if you can rent it. 10 euros per night, outside teh ZTL.

Several years ago I stayed in a very nice family hotel just outside Il Campo (on my wedding anniversary). It was not 5 star wedding/honeymoon caliber, but it was clean and quaint and is close to where you want to be. It also had AC. The hotel is Piccolo Hotel Etruria. Here is the website if you'd like to check it out: http://www.hoteletruria.com/dove_siamo_eng.html If it looks good, you might also want to check for recent reviews since my stay was a while ago. Congrats and have fun in Siena.

Just got back from two weeks in Italy and stayed 3 nights in the Albergo Bernini in Siena. It's about a 5-7 minute walk from the Campo. A room with a bath is 85 E per night. With a shared bath, it's less. Great view of the Duomo from their terrace. Great place!

Have you found a place yet, Bob? If not, you might consider Palazzo Masi...It's in Rick's book. We loved it and Daniela and Alizzardo are wonderful hosts. I believe there there is AC and an elevator but not positive.

We're staying at Cicogna B&B late next month. They say they have other places to park as well.

Well, we ended up going with the Antica Residenza Cicogna and we're both very excited about it! Eliza has already been wonderful to deal with and the building looks amazing. Thanks to all for your help! This discussion board in general has been an amazing source of information these last several weeks – thank you all! Jim: we'll only be in Siena until the 8th and we have to spend part of the 6th and 7th working out the legal stuff with our wedding coordinator (filing papers, making sworn statements, etc.). That said it'd be great if we could find time to meet up with fellow NW travelers!
