Hotel suggestions for 3 days in Rome

Hey guys, I am looking for specific suggestions for a hotel for 3 nights in Rome in September. I would like to stay close to the city center. I think the area around Termini should be fine, but we are still open to suggestions. I am traveling with my parents and brother, and we are both adults. It seems like we will need to get two double rooms, so we would like to keep the budget to $125-170 per room per night. Some amenities that we would like are air conditioning, non smoking rooms, an elevator, hair dryer in the room, and TV would be nice to have. I've tried looking on Venere and Tripadvisor but I would like to hear some suggestions for my specific circumstances. The low quality photos and websites I've come across for hotels in Italy are throwing me off a little bit. What do you guys think?

Check out Hotel Adler. It is near Termini. Great continental breakfast. They answer their email quick (although I called them direct and booked a room). There is an elevator. There is a computer to use. Rooms are pretty basic but did have a television, air conditioning, and small in room bathroom. I was quite impressed. It is listed in Rick Steves 2009 book. For 3 nights it cost us 360 Euros but we got a breakfast that filled us up for the whole day. Telephone +39 06484466.

Hi, We are also travelling in late sept/early oct. While I got great airfares I have had a bit of sticker shock with the hotels. I am bummed that so much of my budget is getting eaten up by hotels. Oh well! Did you try booking.com. How about Hotel Nardizzi Americana--I guess the elevator is antiquated but it does work. Or Hotel Selene. I haven't stayed at either but did find luck getting a room.

Hi, Dave.

If you're interested in an apartment stay at all, there is the Casa di Clelia which is wonderful. It's right in the heart of the city 5 misn Vatican, 2 mins Castle San Angelo, 10 mins Parthenon. Should be near/within your budget.

http://www.lacasadiclelia.webs.com/

It also has two baths, and 2 bedrooms, one with 2 separate beds which would be nice for you. Air conditioning, TV and charm (used to be a 16th century black smith shop!)

We had a great time their. The property is newly refinished, and the shops/restaurants in the neighborhood were really nice, and heplful!

If you have any questions, send me a private message.

I never even considered an apartment since we will only be there 3 days. Do you think that is a good way to go?

Try this website: www.cross-pollinate.com It is a bed and breakfast and apartment booking service run by an American family living in Rome. They have lots of listings for Rome, Venice and Florence. I have stayed with them many times and they are very reasonable and great to work with. Have fun

For some reason I keep finding this place with great reviews and they have been very responsive with my questions:

http://www.venere.com/bandb/rome/bandb-campanella-3/#reviews

http://www.hostelworld.com/hosteldetails.php/Campanella3/Rome/15718/reviews/

This looks good to me but it looks like its classified as a hostel. Is this place any different than any of the other places on Venere? Hows this location? Its a 10 min walk from the Vatican and there's a metro stop a few blocks away too.

We stayed at Le Rose di Bl in June, a B&B around the corner from metro station, 7 minute walk to Termini. Large clean room 68 euro a night, A/C, elevator, skimpy breakfast, not fancy but great value for the money. There are only 3 rooms, 2 extra bathrooms in addition to the ones ensuite (yes 5 total). The owners do not live on-sight. I also found the airfare such a bargain and hotels relatively expensive. Hope this helps.

We stayed at Hotel Montreal for four nights in June. We paid 80 Euro per night for a double. The place is basic, but we had a TV, hair dryer, fridge, and safe in the room, and the air cond. worked fine. The location was great, 3 blocks west of Termini, easy access to the Metro. We even walked from Piazza del Popola, down the Via Corso, to Spanish steps & Trevi fountain and back to our hotel. There are also a couple of grocery stores in the neighborhood, which was great, we could keep cold drinks in our room. The elevator was small, would fit just 2 people, but our room was on 2nd floor anyway. For the price, including breakfast, couldn't be beat.

Check out Hotel Smeraldo. There is a lot of information on it in other threads.

Have you tried Hotel Aberdeen? It is also listed in Rick's 2009 Rome book and got some great reviews on TripAdvisor. We got a terrific rate which I first saw on Travelocity and when I contacted the hotel directly, they were happy to match it so we booked directly with them.

Hi Dave,

Yup! Apartments are a great way to go. Most of them have a 3 day minimum so you fit in that nicely.

I'd make sure to use one off a reputable site like VBRO or some of the other recommended ones, or references from a good site like this. :)

I understand Tripsadvisor has some apartment reviews - but I haven't checked it personally. Cheers! Chris

We stayed at the Hotel Italia in June. The room was was small, but very clean, breakfast was basic but met our needs and we were quite comfortable there. It was within walking distance to many sites: Colliseum 15-20 minutes same for Trevi and Termini Station. This is definitely NOT a luxury hotel, but for us, we knew we weren't going to be spending much time in the room so as long as it was clean and had a private bathroom we willing to cut some cost on the rooms.

Have a wonderful time!

We spent 3 wonderful nights at the Hotel Lancelot near the Colosseum. It is on a quiet street and has air conditioning and an elevator. Because it is a small hotel it felt very elegant. Breakfast was very nice. We even ate there for dinner and felt like we were in an Agatha Christie mystery, but there were no victims.

You might check out the Hotel Trevi. It's been three years, but it was nice, reasonable, near the fountain, and an easy walk to other sites. We preferred this area to around the Termini station, where we stayed the first time.

We stay at the Hotel Corallo @ 44 Via Palestro. It is about 5-6 blocks--an easy walk--from the train station. Rooms are very clean and some have little terraces. Some rooms are on the small side and so are the bathrooms. The rates are excellent for Rome. The breakfast room is new and during warm weather there is terrace that overlooks rooftops--colder weather the glass doors give you a Roman roof view. The hotel is on the sixth floor and the elevator is "tiny" but we have never had a problem. Guiseppe is always welcoming and friendly.

Thanks for all the info. I wound up booking 2 double rooms at the Hotel Romano after a ton of research. Now I just need to find rooms in the Naples area, Venice, and Milan!

I just booked La Calcina in Venice, it has great reviews on TripAdvisor. It is in the Dorsoduro - an excellent area, more quiet and much less touristy, but close to San Marco. I'm not sure about the AC, since I booked for February, it wasn't exactly relevant.

Dave, I stayed at the Hotel Homs in Rome. Very nice, small hotel conveniently located about 2 blocks from the Spanish Steps, just a few minutes walk to Trevi Fountain and very close to Via del Corso (main shopping street). There is a metro station next to the Spanish Steps which is only 3 stops away from Termini Station. I loved staying at Hotel Homs during my visit.

Good luck!
