We will visit Sorrento May 2027. I would like a hotel with a view of the Mediterranean Sea and not too far from the city center. I like Hotel Minerva (farther from the center than what I want) but my husband is hesitant about taxi service and the safety in a strange city... he doesn't do traveling well and is apprehensive in any foreign country.
Sorrento is very safe
Taxis are expensive and fickle in Sorrento -I would not want to rely on them
Not sure what your budget is, but we stayed (last month) at La Tonnarella. Spectacular views and a fastastic terrace restaurant (with views). We walked everywhere for the entire 3 day visit. I would highly recommend.
Take a look at il Nido (ilnido.it). It's above the city but the shuttle bus is convenient and frequent. The view from the patio (which also serves as the breakfast and dinner area) is spectacular. This is a family run hotel - 2 brothers and their sister - and is very budget conscious. It's also my favorite restaurant in Sorrento for the past dozen or more years!
Oh yes, taxis should be avoided whenever possible! Often they won't turn on the meter and demand outrageous prices for even short trips. Other than that, Sorrento is a beautiful and very safe place!
I'd pick a hotel in or very near the pedestrian zone for convenience and vibes. Your million euro view is the same as the view from the public park and the promenade above the seawall.
Sorrento is very safe.
