Hi everyone, we are staying at Hotel Sonia later this month (4 nights, 3 full days). The Hotel has a special offer "Tour Rome On Us", a free tour good for 24 hours. We are thinking of doing it on our first day in Rome, to get our bearings. We are booked for Vatican & Colosseum tours on our 2nd & 3rd days. Has anyone taken this tour? If so, would you recommend? Also open to other suggestions!

We have stayed at Sonya a number of times but never had that offer. If it is free why not take advantage? However, there could be a tip involved but that is not an unreasonable expectation.

TJ, I would send Hotel Sonya an e-mail to see if they can tell you more about the tour -- how long, where it goes, by bus or on foot, schedule choices, etc. With only 3 days in Rome, the question might be "opportunity cost", meaning are there other places you would like to visit rather than spend your time on that tour. On the other hand, it might be a great way to get an overview of the city and many sites on your first day, at no or minimal cost.
