Might be staying in Rome in early Sep for 3 nights before going on a cruise from Rome to Venice. Has anyone stayed at the Hotel Smeraldo, and if so, any opinions? Also, any suggestions for a nice, clean, fairly inexpensive hotel would be appreciated.
Thanks.

The Smeraldo is a great hotel. My sister stays there when she visits Rome and I have visited her rooms many times. It's also in a great location. Donna
We stayed there in November. It's a nice hotel at a reasonable price. The location can't be beat. We walked everywhere from there. There are a lot of restaurants nearby and the staff is friendly. If you are a light sleeper, ask for a room on the back side. We had a room overlooking the entrance and traffic noise (mostly motorcycles) could be bothersome. I would stay there again.
What my three colleagues above said. On the back for quiet, all but the lovely bells from the pair of local churches during the day, great location, friendly staff, nice room with everything good sized (except the to-be-expected smallish shower, typical of Europe), nice brekkie, etc. Prices decent for our budget.
The Smeraldo is wonderful in Rome. I hope you stay there. I live in San Benedetto Del Tronto Italy and there is a Smeraldo there too that everyone that visits love.
Have a nice trip!
Mitchell, I stayed at Hotel Smeraldo in Rome and definitely enjoyed my stay there. It is very well located, a very short walk to Campo de Fiori. Piazza Navona as well as the Pantheon were only a few minutes walk away with the Colosseum/Forum at a walkable distance. The room I had was a little on the small side, but it was modern, clean and well kept. The service was great and the price was reasonable.
