Our tour begins at this hotel. We couldn't get a reservation for the night before so we got a room elsewhere. Can we check in to Hotel Smeraldo before the meeting at 3:00pm?

Yes, you should be able to if your room is clean. At the very least you can drop your bags in the AM and go out to see the sights. How far away is your other hotel?
