Hotel scam in Venice

a true story: ( NOT a question)
our first hotel choice was booked ( Corte Campagne- in RS book), so he referred us to Casa Lagana ( NOT in RS book, but figured a referral was good). Alberto Lagana should be avoided at all costs! He pulled a "bait and switch" and had his rep " Mr Enrico" take us to a shabby building ( not even a hotel), shabby rooms and bathroom in the middle of one room..dark stairs; we did not even know where we were, as it was different neighbor than his "hotel" brochure listed and neither Mr Enrico nor Alberto Lagano spoke any English. We were very upset and needed someplace for 4 of us to stay for 4 nights; so, we called Riccardo of Hotel Corte Campagne and he called a friend for us. "Sylvia" came to get us and led us to a lovely apartment in a quiet neighborhood. It all worked out, but not without tense moments. So: avoid Casa Lagana, but give Corte Campagne a try.

It was not a hotel at all...probably someone's spare room..and heaven only knows whose house it actually was. Lesson learned: only deal with established hotels or apt rental agencies. It is a waste of time and energy to get scammed and try to find rooms at the last minute.

While I was in Venice the couple arrived before me at the reception area got moved to another hotel because their booked room had a burst pipe. I doubt that was what happened. They probably overbooked and came up with a lousy excuse and sent them to their sister hotel. This is not at the hotel mentioned by Jan.
