I have been trying to make a reservation with Hotel Riva (p. 111 in Rick's book) for weeks now via email, website, and telephone with absolutely no answer. Has anyone been there recently or know if they are closed?

I sent emails to several hotels (including hotel Riva), and only got a response from 2. I ended up booking most of my trip using booking.com. I think many hotels don't respond to emails if they are already full.

Don't we miss those reservations desks at the train stations? I use a booking service more and more - if one hotel is full, I just keep scrolling, and unresponsiveness is not an issue. At booking.com, you can search for a particular hotel, or a selection of hotels in a specific city.

The hotel was closed in mid January supposedly for renovation.

Just confirming that I did get a reply from Hotel Riva and they are completely closed for renovation until this coming Fall, 2012. They did not have an expected re-opening date.

I played the same game as Nikki from October thru December 2012 - never a reply and the phone just rings forever. Does anyone have an update on the pending reopening of the Hotel Riva? We will be in Venice in May 2013 and would like to stay there again.
