Hello, We contacted Hotel Zum Wolf al Lupo in Castelrotto by email based on the recommendation in your book. They emailed us back and to reserve a room they asked us to send them our credit card number (by email) or send them a personal check. Is it safe and normal practice to send this hotel/inn a credit card number by email like this? We plan to stay in Castelrotto in September. Thank you.
Robert
Many of us do this all the time. You can send the CC number by fax if you are concerned about the security of email. Or mail them your personal check as they suggest as an alternative. Done that too. Just make sure you understand their cancellation policy before you do anything.
Yes it is normal practice in USA and Europe to reserve accomodations. Since you were given the option for safety sake the chance to send a cheque would be my choice. Realize mail in slow to Italy so allow time. Castelrotto is a village whose hotels fill up fast I suggest you do not delay in your reservations.
To stay in the Dolomites is the best if you cannot get reservations you would need to stay in Bolzano a less desirable option.
FYI-Rick doesn't answer questions on this board. His staff monitors them but for the most part the responses are from fellow travelers. It is fairly common for a hotel to ask for cc details to reserve a room. Smaller places may not have secure servers to transmit the information via the internet. Break up the info over 2-3 e-mails and you'll be fine.
Castelrotto is boring! Go to Selva Val Gardena, much better. http://www.hotelfreina.com/
