Going to Sicily with a family of four. Looking for recommendations for hotels, apartments, B&Bs or agriturismos in Erice, Agrigento, and Ragusa and/or Noto. Doesn't need to be large but centrally located with parking is a big plus. Looking to spend $150/night or less to accommodate all four family members. quad rooms are fine if available. Any suggestions would be MUCH appreciated.
Also wondering where to spend New Year's Eve: 1) in Sicily and if so where, or 2) Rome. Have 4 adults and 2 in their 20s so some party atmosphere would be appreciated (but NOTHING Times Square-like).
Kaye, I loved Erice Pietre Antiche apartments in Erice. Check it out on Booking.com, where it has glowing recommendations. This is a small building with 4 apartments of varying sizes, in the center of Erice. The owner Massimo is very helpful. There is no parking at the building, but he led me to a virtually empty free parking lot a few blocks away. Most or all of the parking in Erice is on the fringes of town, not in the center. I really loved Erice, especially the early mornings and evenings, when I found the town very quiet, misty and mysterious. I also loved Monte San Giuliano where I had 2 dinners. Especially good was the regional speciality "couscous di pesce", with roots in quite nearby Tunisia. Excellent bakeries in Erice too.
