Hotel recommendations Rome

Planning a 2day deviation from our cruise itinerary Oct 2025; pre and post cruise arriving and departing Port of Rome.
Is it best to take cruise transportation back to airport & taxi into Rome for hotel?

Otherwise recently stayed near Termini & efficient bus and metro transportation to sights.
Any favorite 3star hotels with lift and rooftop lounge areas that you'd recommend. Enjoy a breakfast buffet & good concierge service.
Thanks!
Addendum: Great tips!

First off, there really is no Port of Rome. Your cruise is using the port at Civitavecchia, about an hour via train NW of Rome. It is basically a commuter run between the port and Rome. The train station is at the port. Three to four trains an hour taking between 45 min and an hour, 15 depending on train type and directly to Termini. Waste of time and money to take cruise transportation to airport and taxi to Rome. Go Direct. We prefer Hotel Sonya across from the Opera House and just south a couple of blocks from Termini. Have also used Hotel Aberdeen a couple of blocks further away to the west. Both excellent hotels with good breakfast. Wife thinks lattes at Sonya are better so that is the tipping point for us. We like the Termini area with good restaurants and convenient transportation hub.
