Hotel Recommendations in Ortisei Needed

I have received several leads on hotels from private messaging someone who has posted on this forum, but I would still like more hotel suggestions. There are three of us traveling together and we think a B&B will work best for about four days in early Sept. right in Ortisei. (This destination will be part of our travels to Austria too, in case you saw my "hotels needed" posts on that forum.) Thank you! Ann.

Rick's books don't cover this town in any of our guidebooks. However, you might try checking in a Lonely Planet guidebook or perhaps check on Trip Advisor to see what others have done in that town.

Hi Abe. Yes, I know there isn't coverage in Rick's book, nor is there in The Rough Guide; I think Lonely Planet's Italy book is only an e-book, though I may be wrong. One of the other big guide book publishers has gone that route. Doesn't suit me, so I use other companies and resources that are print based. Yes, many, too many, at Trip advisor. Very hard to know where to start! But thanks. Maybe someone else besides the lady I PM'd with recently will weigh in. Ann.

During my search for a B&B in the area, I found some with excellent views. They're about 5 minutes away from Ortisei in an area marked "Daunei" on the map.

Here's the Google street view of the area and the picture postcard views:

Despite how beautiful this area is, I opted to stay in Rick's recommended Cavallino D'Oro in Castelrotto. Honestly, when I'm traveling all I do in my room is sleep and get a shower. For me, staying 15 minutes away from "the sights" usually turns out to be the better option. I found Castlerotto offered more affordable accommodation with breakfast included. The staff was extremely helpful when I contacted Cavallino D'Oro and even provided additional helpful tips beyond what I had expected so I feel like I made the right choice.

Good luck with your search!

We stayed here for several nights. We had a very large, lovely room with a balcony/deck that had a valley view. There was a sofa bed, dining table, mini-fridge and lots of space to move around. It is essentially a B/B that adds a delicious,multi-course dinner every evening. They have a small spa area, and the location is great for relaxation. It is somewhat isolated, so you would need a car. With a vehicle it is a convenient location for day trips with late afternoon return for the memorable evening meal. When we did this we trained it into Bolzano and rented a car there. A bit of an adventure, but memorable nonetheless. If we ever returned to this are we would absolutely stay here again.

I would stay in Ortesei or one of the other villages in Val Gardena rather than Castelrotto. You can have a balcony with a gorgeous view of the mountains and access to hiking close by.

We stay in Santa Cristina or up on Alpe di Siusi, so I cannot offer personal recommendations for Ortesei. I suggest you check Tripadvisor for reviews and prices, then go to the website of the place that appeals to you for booking. If you really want a B & B (no in-house meals other than breakfast) look for a "garni." But we prefer to stay at a small hotel and take half-board. The dinners are wonderful and a very good value.

Thanks everybody! I am really looking forward to seeing this beautiful area. I haven't been to Continental Europe since 1972! Ann.

We stayed at Gasthof-Albergo Stua Catores and recommend it highly. We opted for full pension since it is also known for its food. The view from our window and balcony was stunning. I put reviews on trip advisor for both the hotel and the food; just look for ones written in English last summer.
