Debbie, How old are the kids and can they be in their own room? Also it makes it easier to have the price range in Euro since that's how you'll be paying. At €140/night I believe you are going to have a challenge. Quad rooms are hard to find but if it's available, Hotel Villa Steno (in Rick's 2016 Italy book) shows a Quad at €265 and Albergo Marina at €200. Can you increase your per night budget for Monterosso?

debbie,

For travel in March, you'll first have to check to determine which hotels will be open, as the tourist season there doesn't "officially" start until April 1st. You'll also need to give some thought on whether you'd prefer to stay in the "new town" or the "old town". It's a very easy walk between the two parts of town, and it's mostly level as can be seen on the far right side of THIS photo.

I always like to stay at Hotel Villa Steno, which is one of my favourite hotels in Europe. It's located in the old town up the hill from the beach, and there are lots of nice restaurants and small shops in the vicinity. If you have access to a copy of the RS Italy guidebook, there are lots of suggestions there for accommodations in various price ranges. You could also consider their "sister" property, Hotel Pasquale.

Once you've found a place, I'd recommend booking early.

Debbie, We really liked Hotel Villa Steno. It is located up a hill which gives you some really great views. Would stay there again in a heartbeat

Hi,
We stayed at Il Portico - a one bedroom (plus sofabed in the lounge) for two night in May this year - 280 Euros for 2 nights. It was the perfect location, and lovely apartment. The only thing is are you dragging a pram around? It is up on the 3rd floor. Loud church bells but they stop at 10pm.

Debbie notes in another of her posts that her kids are 10 and 13 so no complications with a pram. That's a very good thing as most of the CT is lousy for managing a baby stroller!

Another thumbs up for the Hotel Villa Steno. Owners are delightful, and the views are wonderful. Great breakfast, too. And, one night it would be easy to take pizza to your room and dine on the balcony, as the sun sets :) Kids might enjoy that, too. Pizza place just a short block (a few buildings down the hill ) away.

We stayed at Hotel Pasquale in 2013 & loved it. All rooms have ocean views & the hotel was very clean & comfortable. The owners were wonderful & they couldn't do enough for us. The breakfast buffet was nice & the patriarch of the family gets up early every day to make fresh croissants filled with marmalade. I believe their sister property is Villa Steno (if not then it's a different hotel in Monterosso). I would stay there again in a heartbeat.
