Hotel recommendations for Sicily destinations

We are 4 adults traveling to Sicily in early May. Our destinations include Palermo area, either Trapani or Vito Lo Capo, Agrigento, and Taormina area. Looking for "Rick Steves type" hotel recommendations (clean, comfortable but not luxury charming, in nice areas).

Thanks!

In Taormina the Hotel Elios is what I consider a Rick Steves type of hotel. Our room had a sea view and there is a roof terrace from which you can see Mt Etna.

In Agrigento, we enjoyed Terraze di Montelusa, a b&b with a huge rooftop deck with spectacular views.

Hi lolsson,

In Palermo we stayed at Hotel Girabaldi, comfortable accommodations it is a hotel not a B&B which we usually stay. But Palermo is a larger city. It was in a great location, very clean and good breakfast with eggs! There is a wonderful restaurant just a few block down called Osteria Lo Bianco. I am very fussy and opinionated and I think it was one of the best meals I had in my 2 week trip. Very affordable and delicious.

The second city of our trip was Erice, between Trapani and Vito LoCapo. Trapani and Vito Lo Capo are beach towns and although we really love the beach we did stay there because we wanted a different type of vacation. I LOVE Erice. It is very small town on top of a small mountain. The people are wonderful and the food, and history are equally wonderful. From there you can take the Funicular to Trapani for the day, maybe visit the salt mines. I would avoid going to Trapani on a Sunday because a lot of the town is closed. In Erice we stayed a Hotel San Domenico. The innkeepers were lovely and very helpful. They spoke English very well. The room was also very clean and comfortable and had a great breakfast. We had a room I think it was on the 2nd floor with a French balcony overlooking the sea of Trapani.

The third place we stayed was in the town of Piazza Armerina and we stayed at Villa Clementine. It was a stately home just on the outskirts of town. The pool was welcomed after a long drive and day of touring. That was also very clean and more than I expected. The homeowner made a wonderful breakfast with all homemade baked goods. It was a little farther than I would have liked only because we only stayed 1 night and did not want to use our time walking. The innkeeper drove us to town and we took a taxi back.
The next stop was Siracusa.... not on your radar maybe next time.
Our final stop was Taormina 4 nights in Villa Sirami. It was a great place to wind down, quiet but close to everything. I liked the location, and the private patio with a table and chairs. We took food home and ate on the patio 1 night. A welcome change after restaurants for 10 nights. It too was good, not a nice as the others but also clean and very comfortable. Breakfast was as expected. There was on site parking which we did not need. We turned in the car upon arrival and walked everywhere.

Enjoy your vacation

I've just returned from my first visit to Sicily...and I loved it.

In Palermo we (also 4 adults) stayed at PALAZZO PANTALEO...a B&B in the heart of the city; walkable to most sights & the port; and close to a lovely pedestrian street with cafes & restaurants. Giuseppe, the owner, is a friendly & helpful gentleman. I definitely recommend Giuseppe's PALAZZO PANTALEO.

In Palermo, we also took a very fun tuk~tuk tour with Rosario Pizzuto. He is a great guy...doesn't speak fluent English, but does manage very well to communicate. We also arranged our transfer from & to the airport with Rosario; and did a day trip to Cefalu, a beautiful seaside town. Rosario is timely and always cheerful. Another definitely recommend!

We were pleased with these accommodations also:
Agrigento: Foresteria Baglio delle Luna for lodging and dinner in their lovely dining room
Taormina: La Pensione Svizzera for excellent lodging & location; had a marvelous dinner at Trattoria da Nino; unforgettable arancini at Antica Rosticceria da Cristina.

Enjoy your Sicily trip!
