We are planning to spend a few days in Rome before we start our Mediterranean cruise, and are looking for a hotel recommendation. We are in our 60s, so prefer a more quaint location, rather than a party district. And within walking distance to the typical tourist destinations and restaurants. Mid range hotel, not luxury. - - I will also order the Rick Steves book which should have some hotel recommendations, but would like to get the bookings done before the book arrives.
Take a look at Hotel Campo De' Fiori. That sounds like it may be what you are looking for.
We stayed in Hotel Italia Roma (from Rick's book) and it was a very quiet and pleasant location. It might be a bit plain (definitely not luxury) but everything was clean and the staff was very welcoming. We loved our time and the staff so much that we are going to stay there again when we visit Rome this fall.
Its located near the Termini station and just around the corner from a pickup/dropoff for the Bus #64 which takes you to all the major sites.
Hotel Della Torre Argentina has my vote. Stayed there last June. Overall, good facility and staff - great location. 3 minute stroll to Pantheon, Campo dei Fiori, etc..
