Hotel Recommendations for Positano, Italy in September 2017

After looking at all of the hotel options for Positano, my head is spinning. Hotels in the $400+ range look amazing and what we would usually get if staying fewer nights, but spending more than two weeks at $400+ a night in Greece and Italy will be too expensive. Does anyone have hotel recommendations for Positano that are really nice but with a more friendly price tag? We would sacrifice a view for more luxurious accommodations. Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated!

I think you may be looking too far out and that's why you're seeing such high prices - that's not to say that Positano isn't expensive and that some spots don't get taken quickly, but I don't think every single hotel already has their prices posted. How set are you on Positano? It is really small, closed in, very heavily touristed (hence the high prices) and not the only place where you can get a wonderful view. Try looking up Anacapri (it's on an island so not totally ideal as a base for other trips, but great for a few nights) on www.booking.com. Even in adjacent Capri (super touristy, not unlike Positano) and Sorrento, you can get a wonderful view for $200 or so (probably even less, although it has been a few years since I visited so prices may have gone up). There are lots of options along the Amalfi coast and you've got plenty of time.

Thank you for the replies! We are not set on staying in Positano. I am finding some hotels already sold out for our stay in September. So, it does not seem I am looking too early. Where would you make home base considering we want to spend time in Positano, Amalfi, Ravello and Capri?

We stayed in Sorrento at Hotel Minerva - expansive balcony over Sorrento, excellent breakfasts on that terrace, and a very helpful staff. Explore Sorrento and ferry to Capri.

Then we took the bus to Positano to stay at Hotel California. It is steps from the bus stop and has a gorgeous view over Positano. We rode the bus to Nocelle to hike the Path of the Gods into Praiano, rode the bus to Amalfi and up to Ravello before we took the ferry back to Positano. It was delightful day ! Take Mama Agata's cooking class in Ravello - the views are stupendous ! From Positano you can visit Atrani.

I thought it was easy to switch hotels. Two locations made it easy to do everything we wanted to see.

Hotel Margherita in Praiano. Great little town and easy to get to Positano. We visited all of the places you mentioned with Praiano as our home base. I believe we paid $175 a night at Hotel Margherita, maybe $200

We really like staying in Ravello. Villa San Cosma is pretty spectacular, especially of you get the apartment with the balcony. We also stay at Punta Civita, which is a very nice B&B. More luxurious hotels in the actual village are in your price range too.
