Hotel Recommendations for Milan for March 2023

Good Evening All:

I will be traveling to Milan in late March - as of now, this is the trip breakdown:

Milan - 1 night
Lake Como (Varenna) - 3 nights
Venice - 3 nights
Bologna - 3 nights
Milan - 1 night

Can anyone recommend a hotel or two for Milan? I typically enjoy newer hotels or boutique hotels. I have seen a lot of recommendations for Hotel Spadari al Duomo (including in the RS guidebook), but looking at the website, the rooms appear a bit dated. Any guidance would be much appreciated!

Thank you!

The rooms at Hotel Spaderi Duomo are not dated as on my wonderful stay earlier this year!
I'd stay longer in Milan than 1 night at a time.
Enjoy your trip

Hi Ron,

Thanks for the recommendation and for letting me know they're not dated. It has received very high ratings, so it appears the way to go. Yes, 1 night on each leg of the trip likely isn't enough but we wanted to spend more time "outside of the city." I live in NYC so wanted to experience some more quiet locales...

I'll 2nd Christine's suggestion. I also stayed there for a couple of nights the end of September and had stayed there for one night in 2014. The staff are wonderful and the breakfast has a good selection. It's also right across the side street from the Pinacoteca Ambrosiana museum (Leonardo's drawings) and just 5 minutes away from the Duomo. It's about a 25 minute walk to The Last Supper if that is of interest to you (and get your tickets early).

I'll make a suggestion about your train ticket to Varenna. I downloaded the Trenord app which is from the train company that covers Lombardia. I purchased that ticket from the hotel room on the morning I was traveling and had it up on my phone for the conductor. I'd also taken a screenshot of the ticket for them to scan in case you don't have data or wifi. The Trenord app will also allow you to buy the train ticket on the Maspensa Express which is the train from/to the airport if that will be your mode of transport. I was so tired when I got to Milan and just did not want to be on a crowded train car that I took a taxi in to the hotel at the fixed rate of 104E.

We stayed in Ibis Milano Centrale. The hotel is a relatively new one. The rooms are OK, but not special. The breakfast is great. The location is good. The cost was in our budget.

My daughter's task was to choose a hotel in Milan. She chose Aethos at The Yard. Our friends from Milan checked it out and said it was quite nice. Reviews are good. We will repot back next week.

I stayed at the Spadari a couple of times. The decorator likes blue. I loved the shower, which involved water flowing over a sheet of cobalt blue glass. I had a room with a terrace, which was great. I had a table and chairs, a couple of citrus trees, and a view of the street. I went next door to Gastronomia Peck and bought myself dinner and a bottle of wine (I was on a business trip, alone), and sat out on the terrace people and tram-watching.

We enjoyed staying at Hotel Manzoni which is a lovely boutique hotel in the fashion district on a quiet street - Via Santo Spirito. It was easy to walk from there to the Duomo, and it is also near Metro stop Montenapoleone which you can take to Milano Centrale for the train. The staff at Hotel Manzoni were very helpful. We chose a room with a balcony which was very nice.
