Hello, I’m looking for a hotel recommendation in Ischia. We plan to spend a couple of nights there at the end of our best of southern Italy tour. We are looking for a comfortable hotel with decent amenities that is not ridiculously priced. Something like the hotels one would find on a Rick Steves tour. Any suggestions? Thank you!
I've never taken a Rick Steves, or any, tour of italy, but I did spend a week on Ischia while back and we fell in love with the IL MORESCO,, located in Ischia Ponte. Moderate prices and very good price/quality ratio. (Remember, hotels on a resort island like Ischia do not come cheap). Highly recommend this hotel. Not directly on the sea but they have a private sea swimming area down the block from the hotel with chairs, etc.
Thank you. It looks great. Seriously considering it. What was getting around Ischia like? Are restaurants and other locations walkable? How did you get from the ferry to the hotel?
The island is easy to get around by bus; the main bus depot in in Ischia Porto. You can walk there from the hotel but also you can catch a bus very close to the hotel.
Taxis are very expensive on Ischia; I think we paid 40 euro for the ride from the port to Forio, where we stayed in another hotel for a few nights before moving to Il Moresco. (would not recommend staying in Forio).
Next time I might look into renting a car for a couple of days. But it's not necessary. Some of the restaurants we went to, or wanted to go to, were a long walk from the bus stop. But I tend to be very particular about where I eat..I look at SlowFood and Gambrero Rosso, etc etc. But none of that is necessary, you will find plenty of places to eat within walking distance of the hotel.
The hotel also has a half-board deal but we did not take that...it's a good deal, as I remember but I like to go to different restaurants every night....
See if this is of any help:
