Does anyone have any recommendations in Florence or Monterosso? I am slowly working my way through this two week trip in May. I have been shocked at how booked everything is (at least Rick Steve's recommendations in his Italy 2015 book. So now I have booked one hotel on Bookings.com and that was great, but there are so many hotels. If anyone has a good experience for Florence or Monterosso I would greatly appreciate it!
I enjoyed Florence: pensione Pendini. Request a quiet room. Great location, elevator if needed, lovely breakfast room with breakfast included. Room was quite nice. Freshly renovated with traditional bedroom and large, modern bathroom. I stayed in a triple. I would stay here again. Also, friendly and helpful staff.
My recommendation in Florence is Casa di Annusca through Cross-Pollinate.com. We stayed there in October for 5 days and loved it. It is in the Oltarno neighborhood which is across the river from most museums but a quick walk as Florence is a very walkable city. When I checked on Cross-Pollinate, there were vacancies for most of May. I have used them many times and they are a great site to find lodging and they seem to check up on their places. They usually don't have hotels but pensiones and B and B's, so no front desk but there are lots of photos, reviews and descriptions.
Good Luck
Judy,
When last in Monterosso we stayed at the Hotel Pasquale. It is in the old part of town, an easy walk from the train station through the tunnel (not the train tunnel!). The staff was great, the breakfast good, and the location is perfect. The same family has the Hotel Steno, farther up the hillside. I have not stayed there, but heard that it is also good.
Have fun with your planning!
La Spiaggia in Monterosso (but probably already booked) .
Hotel Giglio in Florence: small, off the beaten and lovely owners.
I like Hotel Bigallo in Florence, around the corner from the Duomo.
Judy,
We stayed at Hotel Baia, in Monterosso, a few years ago & it was comfortable, clean, reasonably priced and conveniently located
near the train station.
You can also check this list: http://www.rebuildmonterosso.com/p/visitors-information.html
Can't help you with Florence as we stayed in a very small hotel near the train station but don't recall the name of it.
Happy planning!
We stayed here:

The room had a great view, fantastic breakfast and a lot of stairs.
Remembering our trip is so nice, CT is beautiful.
Enjoy the planning and the trip!
Thank you all for your help. Hotel Pasquale was all booked, we stayed there too and loved it, I have a request into Hotel Steno, also Hotel Pasquale gave me a request to send into for all the hotels in the area. So far two have said they are currently closed for the winter. I will try all your suggestions for Florence and Monterosso, thank you all again for taking the time to send out all this information.
Judy,
I'm not sure if you've tried these but in Florence you might try Katti House. In Monterosso it will be excellent if you can get a booking at Hotel Villa Steno. I think it's my favourite hotel in all of Europe and it's not surprising that they just received a Trip Advisor Traveller's Choice Award for top hotel for service (No. 10 on the list). It's a bit of effort to get there initially with luggage, but once you're there it's a great location!!!
If you can't get a booking there, try Hotel Villa Adriana, which is at the far end of the new town. It's larger so has more rooms. I found the rooms clean and comfortable, and they serve a nice breakfast.
