My husband and I will be staying for 2 nights in Capri and would love to know the best hotel recommendations. I would like a mid-range priced hotel. Is it better to stay in marina grande or Capri town and best value for the best hotel with sweeping views.
I stayed here in 2004 (long time ago) but now I see it's quite pricey. The location was outstanding (right overlooking the water steps from Marina Grande) and the hotel was very lovely. I have nothing but good things to say about it (I still remember the wonderful lemony smell of the shampoos and toiletries - it was heavenly!), but it's not "mid-range".

What I would suggest is go on www.booking.com and filter by your budget (it will show a range). At least you'll get a feel for how expensive Capri is overall - the place definitely feels like it's made for the well-heeled, but hopefully you can find something that's not too bad (book as early as you can because it books up fast). Another option is to stay in Anacapri, which I probably would have done the first time had I known about it. Sorrento and Naples will be even less expensive and have more choices at different price points. But of course, they have a totally different feel than Capri (great in their own way but not the same).
PS. I took a quick look at Anacapri and this looks like a really neat property, and seems to be better priced. I did not stay there but it looks like it has great reviews from folks who have stayed there.

I would compare rates with the B & Bs own website (I do this for all hotels)

We stayed at Hotel La Tosca in 2010 and have nothing but rave reviews for our experience. The hotel itself is small and our room was simple, but comfortable. For Capri, the price was quite reasonable. But, what truly made our experience outstanding, was Ettore, the owner. When we arrived, he sat us down, handed us cool drinks (much needed) and asked what we wanted to do in Capri. Once we gave him our thoughts, he got a map and laid out an itinerary for our time there. We followed it from start to finish and it was perfect. He even recommended restaurants (and, what we should order) and he was spot on. Our time in Capri remains one of our best memories.
We've stayed in this one in Capri town but without your dates, I don't know what current rates are:

Depending on season, 'best' hotels with 'sweeping views' are probably not going to come at a moderate price. Exploring your options according to budget on booking.com or similar is probably the best idea.
