Looking for your opinions of a decent hotel in Rome, Florence and Venice. We are going to be able to use Amex points to convert so we do not need the cheapest...not the most luxurious. Just me and my wife with no particular concerns.

That's such a broad request, I suggest you start with the RS Italy 2011 book. He recommends lodging in all sorts of price ranges in lots of neighborhoods in each of those cities. That will allow you to pick what works best for you. Happy travels.

My suggestions after vacationing July 28-August 3rd. Rome - Hotel De Petris Venice - Hotel San Barnaba Sorry did not get to Florence this time.
I like at least 3 Stars
