Hi all. I'm rethinking my Airbnb reservation near Trevi Fountain. They updated pictures and now it seems I'm not quite as close to the fountain as I thought. I almost wonder if they own a few places and moved me without my knowledge because the interior pictures aren't what I remember either. Also, I messaged them a few weeks ago with a question and they never responded until I sent a second message. Maybe that's not a big deal though? Anyway, I'm thinking of cancelling that reservation and trying to find something different (I'm really looking forward to the Airbnb I've reserved in Florence though). I wondered if anyone had hotel or other Airbnb recommendations. I want to be fairly close to the fountain so I can wander out to see it early in the morning when no one else is there. Also, the Airbnb sight stays I'll get a full refund if I cancel. Has anyone done this and was it easy? Thanks for any input you can offer!
Hotel Fontana is literally across from the fountain. I breakfast served on a patio overlooking the plaza. It was 25 (?!) years ago that I stayed there, but I recall it having a rustic elegance that wasn't fussy, and the people were warm.
I've canceled AirBnB's before. The terms of each one can be different, but if is says full refund you should be OK.
Hotel Julia is wonderful and a five minute walk from the Trevi. But if you go too early the water may be turned off and guys walking around in it cleaning it. I noticed that several times when I was there early.
Aside from the pictures not being as you recalled them, where is the approx. location of your Airbnb? You might not be as far away as you might think, and I sort of doubt you'll be spending THAT much time with the fountain, once you've seen the thing. :O)
It's still really not far, but it concerns me that when I booked, there was a picture with an arrow pointing to where it was, but it's now clearly on a different street (still close though). The window view pictures seem different as well. The interior pictures don't seem to be what I remember either. I do have a super host, which is supposed to be reliable, and the reviews are good, so maybe I'm worrying for nothing?
I've never had a problem cancelling Airbnb's. As other's have said just read the fine print.
Four years ago, Good Friend and I stayed at Hotel Delle Nazioni, one half block from the Trevi Fountain. This is a beautiful hotel, extremely clean and comfortable rooms, large bathroom, and one of the best hotel breakfasts I have ever had. Our room also had a private outdoor roof deck seating area. You can see photos and map on booking.com. This hotel is actually a bit above what I usually pay for a hotel in Rome, but it was an affordable option for an Expedia package that I bought (traveling in January!) and the location is amazing. Yes, you can walk to the Fountain in under two minutes, in the morning, but it is just enough off the piazza that you don't have the noise of the crowds under your window.
On our last morning in Rome, we walked over to Trevi Fountain for a last look. The fountain was turned off and there were workmen raking the coins out of the fountain and putting them into canisters to transfer to the bank. I don't know how often they do this but there were an amazing amount of coins. It was an interesting sight.
Last I knew, the revenue from all those coins in the fountain goes to a local charity. Along with indulging the local legend, it's another good reason for pitching your own; properly, of course. :O)
I’ve stayed at hotel Julia several times. Not only is it fairly cheap (for Rome), It’s about 2-3 blocks from the fountain, and also just off piazza barberini, which is great for catching the metro, busses, or cabs.
