Hello,
I've narrowed down a list of possible places to stay during our three nights in Vernazza, and I'm looking for a little help to make a final decision. I think part of the decision comes down to whether we want a terrace or not, which would obviously be more expensive. If we opt for a terrace, I'm looking at either Tre Terrazzi or Gianni Franzi. If we chose a room without a terrace, options are Francamaria (Rooms 4, 5, and 7), and Vernazza Rooms (Roma 4). Not sure if it changes the answer at all, but we will be here for our honeymoon. Any suggestions or which of these options would be best? Thanks!
I don't know those specific places as we stayed in Manarola (and loved it there). Bit I'll just say a terrace is well worth the extra cost. Part of the pleasure of staying in Cinque Terre is sitting on a terrace and looking at the sea, especially at sunset.
Our consultant Lisa says, "I would go with the Terrace since it’s your honeymoon, and the views in Vernazza are unbeatable, and Tre Terrazzi is a little more elegant than Gianni Franzi."
Good luck - hope it's available for your dates.
We stayed at Gianni Franzi the first time I visited Vernazza, in 2005, and I remember sitting on the small terrace overlooking the sea was lovely. I don't think you gather this info from their website, but their rooms are scattered along a series of outdoor steps reaching higher and higher. Ours was up about level with the church steeple bell -- at about the TWO HUNDRED step level. Our rooms were clean and fine for our group of four friends, but I wouldn't really call it a honeymoon destination. We had left our car in the parking lot high above Vernazza and packed down to the bare minimum in a canvas shoulder bag so it was manageable, but I still remember the American couple in the lobby, each pulling TWO huge rolling duffels, and wondered if the marriage survived that vacation.
If you want a place to stay that you will never forget, stay at Gianni Franzi! We stayed there in 2008 and we still talk about the 100+ stairs to our room ; the room was unique and especially the bidet and toilet all in one combination. It still brings a smile and laugh to my husband and me. The room was all right and one that we will never forget!
