Hotel recommendation in Venice - Canal facing

I know this may be a lame question as there are 1000s of hotels in venice and most of those facing the canal.
But I am looking for guidance from your experience where you stayed/heard that it is good - facing canal or grand canal near to city center or near the bridges. I am looking for around $250-400/night.

Appreciate your help. Thank you.

I've got it. It's small, family owned, amazing breakfast w/fresh omelets and homemade pastries, etc --even has a private dock IF you want to take a private taxi there from the airport = we've stayed here many times and will be there again in October. It is at the Rialto Bridge - Al Ponte Antico Hotel.

Be sure and book direct with them, not a 3rd party site. It is small, the owner will happily answer questions about the rooms via email. You can see photos and read reviews on TripAdvisor, but book on their website.

@David - I did that. As I said, there are a plenty in my budget but wanted to get your experience from travelers. Thanks.

@Chinalake - Thanks for this recommendation. Beautiful hotel. Unfortunately, its not available on the dates of my travel. Perhaps I will call the number and check.

Yes - we book as soon as we know we are going to Italy. Many times over a year in advance.

We prefer to be on the quiet back canals, where one can experience a very different, uncrowded, peaceful Venice. We stay at the Hotel Ai Mori D'Oriente, which has a great staff and breakfast. It's in the Cannaregio area, and has a dock. It's only a ten- minute walk to the Vaporetto stop on the Grand Canal. Have a great trip.

hey hey ramsdesk
when are your dates and how many people (adults/kids)?
I would look for small canal away from grand canal, it’s a very busy canal with many different boats that travel up and down. Including workers/rescue/cops/tour/private water taxis/loud motor boats, busy all day and even evenings.
liassidi palace hotel
locanda vivaldi hotel
hotel antiche figure
hotel dalla mora
hotel arlecchino
palazzo veneziano
just a few to check out. we stayed in apartments with 4 of us.

We also like Hotel Ai Mori D'Oriente and the calmer, quieter areas of Cannaregio.

We spent three nights at the Londra Palace, overlooking the Guidecca. The views, particularly of San Giorgio Maggiore were simply spectacular. We had a balcony and sitting with a glass of wine watching the traffic, both boats and people was a terrific experience.

Breakfast, served inside or outside on the patio, was excellent, with prosecco included if desired.

No idea if it is in your budget, because I am not sure which dollars you are referring to. If it is my Australian dollar it certainly won't be though.

I'll add to the pros for Ai Mori d'Oriente. I've stayed there several times and look forward to going back.
