Hotel Recommendation in Venice

Hi everyone!

My husband, my son (13), and I will be arriving at the airport nearby Venice around 10 pm on Dec 14th and plans to stay 3 nights. We are wondering where we should stay in Venice and if we could get your recommendations. We are considering choosing a hotel relatively close to Piazzale Roma due to our arrival time and location (we are probably using a bus, not a water taxi because we can't see anything and would be cold). I know a lot of RS's recommended hotels are around Piazza San Marco, but not sure if that's smart for us. We are looking for family friendly, good location, relatively quiet and modestly priced room with a private bathroom. Thank you!

Hi,

In summer 2016, I stayed at the Hotel Santa Lucia which is about 10 minutes from Piazzale Roma and very close to the train station. I thought their rates were great. Situated far enough from a major thoroughfare in Cannareggio to be quiet but easy to find. I had a room without an ensuite but I think some rooms do include a bathroom.

Hi Sharon, thanks for your recommendation. I contacted them, and unfortunately, they are closed for those days we needed to stay... bummer!

Try Hotel Antiche Figure! Husband and I had a wonderful quiet room with private bathroom there last October. Great location a short walk from Piazzale Roma and directly across the Grand Canal (one bridge) from the train station. Terrific reviews on TripAdvisor - hotel staff are amazing. Have only stayed there once but would definitely stay again.

We stayed at the Ca dei Dogi which is right behind the Palace and a block from the water taxi's. It is down a little walk way (alley) off Riva degli Schiavoni where the S. Zaccaria water taxi's are on the Grand Canal. It was wonderful as we had a small balcony that was so quiet we couldn't believe we were just around the corner from San Marco's. The owners were wonderful, breakfast great, location couldn't be more central. It's rated very highly on trip advisor and it is family run, everything is first rate.

My family and I stayed at Ca' Angeli in Venice. It has a great breakfast, nice staff.

If you get either the Venice or Italy Rick Steves book you'll see that he has lots of lodging recommendations that are not near Piazza San Marco. And if you have a specific price range in mind, please share it (in euros). Otherwise no one knows what "modestly priced" means to you.

Thank you for all the suggestions! I will check out the hotels recommended, and will get the book!
