Hello all,
I am looking for hotel recommendations for Rome in July. We are a family of 4 so space is a factor (I know the rooms will be small bc it's Europe just not 4 twin beds set up). Preferably more on the modern side, close to transportation bc we will not have a car. Budget is a factor it's only for 3 nights before we get on our cruise so really will just be to sleep but would like something nice just not super expensive. Appreciate any help :-)
Are you looking for a family room? or two doubles?
The family room set up will limit your choices some. Area will also make a difference, everybody has a different preferred area, mine is the Trastevere.
You could look at Hotel Trastevere, I have stayed there a number of times, rooms are basic, some can be a bit cramped, but it is clean and in a great location. They have some "Quad" rooms, suitable for two adults and smaller kids or teens at about 160 euro a night. Two doubles just about anywhere will run you that or more.
We stayed in the Locanda Navona hotel in their family room and it was really great. There was a big bed (King or Queen) and bunk beds for the two kids we had with us. There was plenty of storage and general space to move around for four people and we really enjoyed it. You can book direct with them and they often turn up on popular booking sites too (Expedia, Hotels.com, etc). The family room is on booking.com right now for $147 per night. We loved this hotel. It is just a few steps away from the Piazza Navona (you can see it from the window of the family room).

what budget you looking for as “not super expensive” and are they all adults or any kids with their ages?
first trip to rome? many sites not that close, lots of walking, wear comfy shoes, taxis can help alleviate those tired feet, no flagging on street pick up at taxi spot all over the place. short time to spend but you can get things done, interests for all.
