Hotel Recommendation in Rome

Hi, we are traveling to Rome this May with our family (4 older teenagers) and would love some hotel recommendations. The Republic Hotel was recommended but not sure we want to stay there based on some reviews. We will need 2 rooms as our party is 6 people. This is the first time they have been to Europe.. Open to Airbnbs too.

Thanks so much for your help!

I will also be in Rome on the first part of our trip to Italy in May. RS's Rome travel book suggested as did a few posters the following hotel which I booked for two nights.

$500 per room per night shouldn't present any problems. That is a very large amount for a hotel room. You can find plenty nice hotels with 3 or 4 stars for under $250/night per room.

You can use Booking.com or any other search engine to find it, however for a large family like yours I would look into an apartment on VRBO.com or AirBnB.com especially if you stay 3 or more nights.

The area near the Pantheon/Piazza Navona is the most central, but anywhere in the center of Rome will work. I like Trastevere, on the other side of the river from the historical center.

The Hotel Lancelot - is walking distance to The Colosseum, Forum and many nice restaurants. We stayed there a few years ago - we received a discount when we showed our Rick Steve's Rome book. Nice rooms, great breakfast, and they have very good multicourse dinners, though not every night. We took buses to other areas of Rome. Friendly staff. Via Capo d' Africa 47.

With that many people, I suggest that you search on airbnb or VRBO. You should easily be able to find a three bedroom apartment within your budget. Then, you will have lots of space, a kitchen, usually washer dryer. Make sure you get air conditioning. Just go to the sites, type in your dates and the number of people and bedrooms you need and you can check out all the locations on the map. They usually have lots of photos and reviews. Good luck.
