Hello travelers, I'm trying to decide between Hotel Maria and Hotel Grones in Ortisei. I like the convenience of Hotel Maria. But I love the views from Hotel Grones. I'm concerned about the walk up to the hotel everyday from the lifts, etc. and also from the main bus stop when we first arrive in Ortisei with our roll-on bags. Does anyone have any suggestions? Or any other hotel recommendation in a similar category? Thank you!

We did a lot of research in finding the hotel for our September 2026 Dolomites trip and are exceptionally pleased we chose Hotel Grones for the following reasons:
1. Location
2. Condition of the property and amenities
3. Service
Location is a little above and away from central Ortisei making for great views and quiet, yet still just a few minutes walk from the center on beautiful Passeggiata Luis Trenker (a lovely walking path).
The hotel is immaculately clean and well maintained. Our room had an abundance of natural light and light clean wood floors and furnishings. The common areas including reception, bar, dining, landscaping, pool, jacuzzi, spa, parking are all excellent.
All the staff were kind and helpful and provided excellent service.
From ownership to front desk to bartender to wait staff to housekeeping. The breakfast was varied, fresh and well stocked. The dinner service provided delicious options and multiple courses of local cuisine. There were theme nights with typical Ladin dishes, nights with an accordion player, nights with a harpist.
We met couples who have been returning to Hotel Grones time and again. We completely understand as everything about this place is excellent.

It is a bit of a trek uphill to Hotel Grones but note that an escalator takes you most of the way. Without luggage, it’s easy enough. On arrival by bus you might want to take a taxi from the square where the bus lets you off, or ask if the hotel has someone to meet you.

We will be staying at Hotel Grones for the first time this September. So far, our interactions will the staff have been excellent. They are quick to respond and very helpful in answering questions. With changes implemented this year for the lifts, we hope our experience in Val Gardena goes as smoothly! 😊
