Hotel recommendation for City Centre in Rome

Looking for a nice hotel with comfortable, soft beds. I keep reading about how hard beds are and I really want to find a hotel with comfortable beds. We would like a hotel that is near the city centre as we are only there for a short time so would like to optimize our time there. Thanks

We stay in the Termini area - Hotels Sonya, Aberdeen, and Contilla. The beds were fine for us. We have never encountered hard beds but our definitions may be different. Termini is on the edge of the main attractions but we prefer it for conveniences to local transit. We like the small out-of-the-way restaurants in the area.

I would highly recommend Hotel Lancelot - it's in RS guidebooks, although we first heard of it from friends before we knew it was on RS list. Lovely rooms, some with balconies, several relaxing common spaces fr guests, terrific assistance from hotel staff, wonderful breakfast included in room price and they also serve excellent dinners with wine - a fun opportunity to visit with other travelers - it's near the Colosseo and San Clemente and easy access to bus lines. We stayed there 10 days in 2008 and will stay there again next year.

mh,

I also use Hotel Sonya or Hotel Aberdeen in Rome, as they're close to Termini station so very convenient for transportation. I don't recall what the beds were like in either hotel, as that's not something I usually take note of (unless there's something unusual).

We have stayed many times at Hotel Aberdeen, we have always liked them and they remodeled a few years ago so even better now. Maybe we are in a rut, but they have always been so nice to us and we always book a driver to pick us up and take us back to the airport. The train station is an easy walk.

I recommend hotel EXE della Torre Argentina. The location is great! It is within a 5 minute walk of Pantheon, campo dei Fiori, Piazza Navona. It 's not cheap - but still better priced than others. Has a mini fridge in room. Does not include breakfast unless you get a deal or pay way too much for it. You can buy breakfast food at Despar or find food in the neighborhood. Best Wishes!

Staying in about 16 Italian hotels last year, I found mattresses were firmer than I use at home, but I slept fine. (I was probably more tired.) I don't think you will find much reliable comparison of this issue in advance.
