I want to stay in a recommended Rick Steves' hotel in rome hotel americana nardizzi. I will be staying with a relative and we need two beds. Is the double room one with a double bed or with two single beds? I am trying to figure out what type of room to book. Thank you!
Usually you can have either or. Ask the hotel directly. We did a few doubles and the ones that could gave us two single beds.
Generally, but not always, a double gives you one double bed and it can be two twins sheeted together. A twin will give two single beds. But check with the hotel.
The best answer will be if you contact the hotel directly with your needs. Usually "double" means one bed, often formed of two beds pushed together. "Twin" means two single beds, often the same beds that would be pushed together to form a "double", but it may be a room with two individual beds permanently placed somewhere in the room. It is very rare, except in high end US based chain hotels like Marriott, to find two double/queen/king beds in one room. All over Europe, but especially in Italy and France, and most especially Paris, the rooms are simply way to small to have two large beds. You must always declare the number occupants.
I was traveling with a friend and we found that in most cases a double room had two single beds that were pushed together or pulled apart as needed. We always e-mailed our hotels to request two beds. Twice when we arrived we had only one bed, we spoke to the front desk and by the time we returned a few hours later the beds were pulled apart. We stayed in small family hotels, and found that people were very helpful. Wendy
