Has anyone stayed at the Hotel Porto Roco in Monterosso, Cinque Terra? I have seen mixed reviews about this hotel, especially because of the price. Looking for some honest feed back. We are planning a trip to Italy in early May. We will be in Cinque Terra for 3 days/2 nights. We were hoping to stay in Monterosso and we are finding most of the hotels are already booked. Normally the Porto Roca would be too high a price for us but we starting looking into it because it was actually available for our travel dates. Any opinions?
Kristen, Could you elaborate on the "mixed reviews" regarding Hotel Porta Roca. I checked Trip Advisor and the overall reviews seem to be weighted heavily towards "excellent". If I could afford it, I wouldn't hesitate to stay there. I haven't stayed there, but did go past it a couple of times last September (it's at the entrance to the trail to Vernazza). The only minor disadvantage is that it's a bit of a walk to get there, but once there it looks VERY comfortable and the views are incredible! They were building a swimming pool last year, and hopefully that will be ready by now. Which Hotels have you tried so far? Cheers!
Kristen The outdoor terrace has views to die for. Also most of the restaurant. The food was good when we were there but it has been 5 years, too long ago to be useful. Many of the rooms have balconies but check if you can see over them when sitting. We had to stand up to see over the solid balcony wall. Since it was April and the weather iffy, it really wasn't a problem. But could be really disappointing in good weather. As in many hotels, you may need to email/call to find out the size and amenities of the rooms so you understand what you are reserving. Also, I would call / email several days before arrival to remind them of what you agreed to at time of reservation. Our room was spartan with straight back chairs. As always, you get what you pay for. Don't get the lowest category room. It also has lovely landscaping. And a steep narrow drive up the side of the hill. The hotel will pick you & your luggage up at the bottom of the hill. Bobbie
Thank you for your comments about Hotel Porto Roco. It is now a mute point as they require a three night stay. We will only be there for two. The two hotels we have found availability in are Hotel La Colonnin and Hotel Punta Mesco. Both in Monterosso. Any advice on those? We have tried Hotel Ristotante, La Scogliera, Hotel Pasquale, Hotel Villa Steno, They are all booked. We are still waiting to hear back from Hotel Margherita, Hotel Spiaggia and Lamala in Vernazza. Any thoughts?
Kristen, It's not surprising that Pasquale and Villa Steno are booked solid - they're very popular! That's a bit disconcerting as that means I may have trouble getting a booking for September. I'd better get busy with that! Have you tried Villa Adriana? It's somewhat on the "far side" of the new town, but it looks like a nice Hotel. Good luck!
