I have made reservations at Hotel PENSIONE GUERRATO in September. I am really excited, but as I started reading reviews on Trip Advisor, it seems this hotel can be really noisy. It looks so charming, does anyone know if there is a room in particular I should request or avoid? I have never found a pair of ear plugs that were comfortable,or that worked! Thanks,
Cynthia
We've stayed there twice and didn't find it noisy. Venice is not a noisy city at night. You could email them and tell them that you want a quiet room, but understand that this might mean they would put you in a room without a view overlooking the tiny piazza that's so charming. And, just in case, have you tried the purple foam earplugs that you can get in a drug store? Those work incredibly well for me.
We had the smallest room just off the lobby, with the bathroom across the lobby, and the breakfast room very close. We didn't find it to be overly noisy at all. I would absolutely stay there again!
Thanks everyone, it sounds like the perfect place! I can't wait to go! Cynthia
It is a wonderful place to stay--very clean and the staff is so accomodating. It can be noisy; i awoke each morning to the voice of a market vendor setting up his stall--but you are in Italy and his singing was superb. Mary
Last June I stayed in one of their rooms that overlook the market and has a view of the canal. It was 'noisy' in the early morning I suppose when the market was being set-up, but it was a lovely 'noise' to wake up to. It was a triple room at the top of the stairs from reception. You will really enjoy the hotel, the location, the staff and just being in Venice.
September won't be as noisy as July either. Rooms can often be noisy because you keep the windows open due to lack of air conditioning (this was my experience in the hotels I stayed in in Rome and Florence--it was too hot to have the windows closed, but I then had to put up with the noises of people in the streets). September will be a little cooler, and less busy. Also, after a few nights I got used to the street noise and now thinking back on it, remember it almost fondly because it was just a part of the urban Roman life.
Guerrato has AC in all the rooms. It's not clear from their website, but the RS book confirms it.
