Having trouble finding a place for 4 in Monterosso in Cinque Terra for mid June, 2009. It seems most of the places that could offer a quad for my wife and I and our two college age kids are taken. So I am researching 2 double rooms instead. 2 rooms are generally more expensive so I am looking at the less expensive hotels. It seems there is a vacancy at Pensione Agavi (also called Meuble Agavi). The price is a reasonable $160/night for 2 double rooms. The description in Rick Steves' book for this hotel is a little unnerving "... this is not a place to party -- it feels like an old hospital... Has anyone stayed in this hotel recently. Was it a nice place? Would you go back?

Don't be unnerved. I've stayed at the Agavi a half dozen times. It's very clean-- Walls are white; simple blue or other basic colors are used on bedding. I'm not sure about the "party" reference, but I think a group of lager-louts wouldn't be welcome or want to stay there. There are two rooms with double beds that share one bathroom/shower. You could save some money with that arrangement.
