Hotel Olivedo Reservation

this hotel emailed me to provide my cc and expire date to hold the reservation, and to pay upon arrival.

Just wonder is it safe to provide these info to the hotel via email. Is this the standard method of booking per hotel’s request.

Thanks

I would never put my credit card info in a single email.

Does the hotel not have a secure website booking process to provide that info?

If no other alternative, the only way I would send the info is to split it into multiple emails to minimize the chance of bad things happening with the cc info

You will find different opinions, but I have done this many times when dealing with small hotels, if I feel it is a reputable business. Two points to give context: 1) every time you give your card to a server at a restaurant, they have access to this same info and could give / sell it to anybody they wanted. 2) any charge to a credit card can be easily disputed. If you find a charge on your credit card that is not valid, just notify the bank that the charge is not valid, and they will reverse it. Enjoy your trip!

You can send in 2 different email if you want, one with the first 8 digits and the expiry month, and one with the last 8 digits and the expiry year. That is for the extremely cautious. But as Bob stated, you do it all the time whenever you use a credit card at a restaurant or bar. That is how mine got hacked. She was cute, with a minimum of 4 face piercings. Capital One knew about way before I did.

helen,

I've provided credit card information many times in the past and never had any problems. I've tried both splitting into two E-mails and sending everything at once, and it doesn't seem to make a difference. Some smaller hotels may not have secure booking sites so this is the only way they can reserve the room. As you're paying on arrival, you shouldn't have any charges on your credit card until you actually check-in.

Have a wonderful trip!
