I enthusiastically second Glen's recommendation for B&B Relais Tiffany! It's a gorgeous little place. It takes about five minutes to walk to the train station. My husband and I stayed there last month. Guilia (the owner) is a sweetheart and serves a wonderful breakfast. Ask for one of the rooms that face the garden.

We stayed at Hotel Alba Palace. It was an easy walk from the station. I would ask for a room off the street.

We've stayed at Mario's Hotel on Via Faenza, which is two streets over from the Santa Maria Novella train station. It is a 3 star property and very nice. We've also stayed at the Hotel Desiree on Via Fiume, which is one street over from the train station. It is located on the second or third floor using an antique elevator. Buon viaggio,

Another vote for the Relais Tiffany. We stayed last August and the owner Julia was so kind and helpful- it really made our stay in Florence special. She baked fresh croissants and pastries every morning. Delightful!

We were happy with our accommodations at Hotel Desirée, also close to the train station at Via Fiume, 20. It is in a building with more than one business and the hotel was on either the second or third floor. We had a "room with a view" overlooking Florence and the breakfast was adequate.
