We have a 6am flight out of Rome and we could not find any moderately priced hotels near the airport on any of the websites they were at least 200+ Euros per night. Looking for suggestions?

We had the same problem a few years ago and just had to "bite the bullet" and stayed at the airport Hilton. Expensive but was easier than staying in Rome. The train to the airport does not run I think before 7:00 am so a cab would have been our only option.
Bo: Have you tried venere.com? The Hilton Garden Inn near Fiumicino has been a choice of some Helpline travelers who've had one of the dreaded super-early Fiumicino departures (but it isn't cheap). I have to admit that I've bitten the bullet like David (above post) and paid the higher prices at the airport hotels. The airport hotels cater to business travelers or others who are willing to pay more for the supposed convenience of being near the airport. I say supposed convenience of the airport hotels, because another option travelers here have used is to stay at a (somewhat) more affordable place in the city and have the hotel arrange for a taxi to pick you up in the middle of the night to get to the airport in time. The question is whether the taxi cost from the city, when added to the somewhat lower hotel cost, saves you any money--when you consider that at your super-early time of the morning, even the airport hotels (as far as I know) don't offer 24-hour free shuttles to the airport--thus you're likely to end up paying for a taxi even if you stay in an airport hotel, not as much as a taxi from the city, but...you get the idea.
We had the same problem. We stayed in Rome and the hotel arraanged a taxi. The fare is set at 40e with a small addition for early hours. The cab arrived on time and we got to the airport in plenty of time.I like to let the hotel arrange the taxi because I think they are very reliable that way because they have dealt with the company before and want future business.A evening in Rome is better then near the airport.
When I want a hotel near the airport I doe a google search for "Airport hotel Rome".
You can then read all about them and choose the one that meets your needs. You might find on with a free shuttle.
Actually transport from Termini to the Airport begins at 5:48am according to Trenitalia.com
