Family of 4 departing Italy after 3 weeks. Would like to stay near the airport for morning flight out. Having difficulty finding a room for 4 at a reasonable price. Any suggestions...
Which airport - Fiumicino or Ciampino? Both are international. There is a Hilton at Fiumicino but it's VERY pricey. Also a new Hilton Garden Inn, Euro House Fiumicino (http://www.eurohouseinn.it) and a Courtyard by Marriott with shuttles to the airport. Be sure to check if the shuttle will work for your flight. They usually don't start running until 7a. It may be cheaper to stay in the center and have a taxi/driver bring you to the airport in the morning.
We are flying out of Fiumicino, Leonardo Da Vinci airport on Thursday, July 5 at 11:45am. If we stay in the city, do you think we will hit a lot of traffic? We have a rental car to return at the airport. I guess if we stay in the city, we could return it the rental car at train station and then take a taxi, but I'm not sure that is cost effective. The rates for a quad in Rome run around 150euro. I haven't even been able to find a quad room near the airport.
Turn in the rental car when you arrive in Rome for the last night. Then just take the Leonardo Express from Rome City to the airport. What waste a perfectly good evening/night/morning in Rome by spending it at the airport hotel?
With four people I would have a driver take you to airport. It may be slightly more expensive than the train (11 euro each) but it's door to door service. I doublt you'll find a quad for less than 150 euro near the airport. You pay for the proximity to the airport. Keep in mind that there are additional taxes & fees for renting or returning car at airport locations. Also, most of the hotels near the airport have no place to eat but the hotel restaurant which charge highway robbery for a meal. Stay in Rome and have a great meal at a decent price.
I just booked for 90 euros for a night for our family of 4 at the B&B villa "Sogni D'oro", on www.bbplanet.it. It's a short taxi ride from Fiumicino airport.
Hope you find someplace suitable.
Thanks so much for your recommendation. We just booked a quad with 2 rooms for 120 euro at the Sogni D'Oro. It sounds perfect. We can still spend the last night in Rome, and yet we won't have to worry about traffic to the airport in the morning. Supposedly it is 15 minutes away.
