I'm looking for a safe, clean and reasonably priced hotel near Milan's central train station. We fly into Malpensa in the evening and the next morning traveling by train to Varenna. Also, traveling home to the US, we have a 15 hour lay over in London-Heathrow. So, also looking for a safe and clean hotel near the airport. Thanks!

In Milan I recommend either the Hotel Berna or Hotel Garda, they are both a couple blocks from the train station . I have stayed in both and either would be a good place to stay -
Forgot to mention that both of these hotel are on the same street, same block and across the street from each other.

I stay at Hotel Garda, €50 per night single, breakfast extra. Rooms are large, clean, comfortable. Very close to the station, less than five minutes' walk while hauling luggage.

In 2009 stayed at Hotel Berna which is a very easy walk from the central train station and they had an amazing breakfast buffet.

Just last week we stayed at the Hotel Garda. Very close to the Milan central train station. You can actually see the train station from the front door. Clean, safe and easy to get to from the Linate airport.

Hotel Berna...hands down. We've stayed there countless times and it is a great property. The rooms are small, but really nice and the staff is terrific. It is located on Via Napo Torriano about 400 meters from Stazione Centrale and the entire hotel is non-smoking.
