Hotel near Fuimicino Airport

My husband and I have a 6:00 AM flight and are looking for a reasonable hotel near the airport. We need a very early shuttle. It seems the Italian taxi drivers don't like 4:00 AM riders or charge unreasonable amounts (like 50 Euros for 2-3 km ride) Any suggestions? I know that the train from Rome doesn't run that early.

Also regarding the Hilton - they have a free shuttle into the city so if you have half a day or so to "burn" you can get into the city center for a few hours of wandering Rome.

But keep in mind that even at 6:00 am that airport is a zoo and plan 3 hours before flight time. We planned about 2 1/2 and only had 5 minutes to spare before they boarded the flight.

CLICK HERE to see hotels in the area from www.tripadvisor.com. The Mach2 Hotel has been recommended by posters on this site as a no frills hotel with shuttle service to the airport. The Cancelli Rossi has also been mentioned as a no frills hotel. Their Trip Advisor ratings don't look good but they do have a shuttle.

Christy,

we had this problem just recently. Couldn't find a single hotel operating a shuttle service that early. Check with any hotel you consider when their shuttle starts! That was the reason we wanted to keep the rental car for an extra night - cheaper than the taxi ride. They all charge extra for going in the middle of the night. BTW they do that here in Canada as well.

If you don't have the option of a car consider staying right at the Hilton Airport Hotel and walk over. It's an expensive hotel but if you figure in the cost of the taxi it's a wash out and you get good accommodation.

the hilton garden inn which is just around the corner from the airport was cheaper than the hilton..and we also had a 6 am flight and the hotel arranged a shuttle for us which was free...worked great. Book early

The hotels near the airport are usually expensive. Stay in the center of Rome and use a service like RomeCabs.com to bring you to the airport. Keep in mind that if you stay near the airport you will have few dining options other than the expensive hotel restaurant - another factor when comparing prices. Early in the morning it won't take more than 30 minutes to reach the airport from the center of Rome. I'd much rather spend my last night in Rome enjoying a drink overlooking a piazza than sitting in a remote airport hotel.

Thanks to all who replied. Since the Hilton is full on the one night we need to be there, we decided our best bet is to keep the car (although the car rental desks don't open until 7:00 AM) for the return. We are lucky enough to be meeting up with friends and have bribed them to take us to the airport (at 4:00 AM) and then return the car before their flight late morning. Although we travel a lot, I always worry about missing early morning flights - no wake up call from hotel, etc. That has happened.
