Hi! We are 6 people, 3 on mid 30's, and 3 on the 60's. We are looking for a nice, comfortable hotel, not too expensive, for 2 nights near the Fountain area. We'll be arriving from our cruise early in the morning, so we need a hotel also accesible to the bus that's goin to take us there.Any help very appreciated!
Thanks!!!
Oh, I forget to say that we wold like the hotel to be a classic one, I mean, not a chain hotel. We would like a nice hotel that let us have the whole european experience...
Not too expensive means different things to different people as does nice and comfortable. The trevi fountain area is one of the more expensive areas of Rome and is a pedestrian area only. You won't find any buses in that area. If you take the train to the termini station from the cruise port you can easily get a cab that can get you to a hotel in that area. We stayed at the Hotel Italia Roma just off Via Nazionale and in the RS guide. It was about 15 minutes to Termini, Trevi (where we went for gelato each evening) and the Coliseum. The hotel was everything we needed, the breakfast was good, the staff very helpful and courteous and we felt very safe ( we're in our early 60's-there's an elevator if you needed one). I am not sure what reasonable would be for you - it was difficult to find moderate hotels in June for us. We paid about 120 + 10 for A/C (worth it!) for our RS discount (and an additional discount for paying cash.
The Hotel Modigliani is near the fountain and has a reputation for being very well priced for its location and it has STELLAR reviews on Tripadvisor and is a RS favorite. I am staying there in October. They have a separate apartment in addition to individual rooms. Maybe that might be a consideration. www.hotelmodigliani.com
