I live relatively near the railway station, a taxi run to the airport at 5.00am tipically takes 10-15 minutes. It would take 15-20 minutes from Oltrarno or the east side of the city.

To be safer and not to lose time looking for a taxi, reserve it in advance by phoning 055-4798 or 055-4390 or 055-4242.

However, as mentioned above, the city center is so close that the hotels above will save you only 5 or 10 minutes at most over one in the city center. Therefore unless you just come in for the night, and you don’t care to see or do anything in Florence on that night (my case), I would find a place in the city center.

Florence is not that big of a city and the airport is relatively close-by, are you just passing through Florence or, are you spending time there?. As others have posted, if you're stying in the Centro Storico or, anywhere around it, reaching the airport is no more than a 30-min drive max, that's from door-to-door. Find the closest taxi stand or, hire a driver.
