Hotel near Florence airport

We have an early morning flight out of Florence on May 22, will be returning from the Cinque Terre by train on the 21st. Any suggestions on where to stay for that one night near the airport? Restaurants for dinner? Thanks

How early? Yes, that's important. But really, there's little in Peretola - where the airport is - to justify staying or eating there. Florence's airport is only a 15-to-20 minute ride from the city center, (especially early morning) and you wouldn't save much time by lodging near the airport. Use a hotel near the main train station and from there take either a bus or a taxi, depending on when your flight leaves. Your hotel can help book you a taxi, if you need one or the bus timetable doesnt' fit you.

We once stated at the Hilton Garden Inn - excellent value, clean, nice, modern, located in the outskirts of Florence very near towards the airport. I believe we paid less than EUR 100.00 incl. Hilton Breakfast -which you may obviously miss due to your early flight:-). There is a bus stop right outside the hotel from where you can hop on a public bus to town, 10 mins. Very good if you want to out for a dinner and don't have to worry about how to get back to hotel. We picked a restaurant from Rick Steves "Italy" but I saw another post "Florence must try restaurants" with some suggestions. Check the bus return schedule at the bus stop once you're in town to avoid missing the last evening departures. happy stay in Firenze!!!

I think our plane leaves at 7:20am. Since we haven't been to Florence yet, I don't have a feel for the distances. If the airport isn't that far out of town, like airports usually are here in the US, maybe a hotel on that side of town is close enough. Any other thoughts?

Figure out transportation to the airport, probably from the train station in Florence. Then stay where that transportation is convenient. Too bad you're not going to see Florence and you're flying out of there.

Ted - we have 3 days in Florence before we head off to the Tuscan countryside and Cinque Terre, then come back to Florence to fly home. And we might come back early enough the day before we leave to see a little more of what we missed the first time!

Camille, We had a 7:30am flight a few years ago and we were staying at a hotel near the Ponte Vecchio. We just had the hotel arrange a taxi for us and I think it took about 20-25 minutes and cost about 20 euro. As others have said, the airport isn't too far from the city and also, the airport itself is very small (something like 4 gates total) so it doesn't take much time to get through.
