We have to stay overnight in the airport area and would like a recommendation for a hotel that provides a shuttle to and from Fiumicino. Thanks for any help you can give!
Diana, The Rome Airport Hilton is probably the easiest choice, since it's connected directly to the Terminals. You could walk from the Hotel, so no Shuttle is needed. It likely won't be the least expensive choice though. For other choices, have a look at the excellent Ron In Rome website. Happy travels!
Diana: We stayed at a hotel near the airport, one of the ones on Ron in Rome's list. It was the Park Hotel Isola Sacra. They will shuttle you to and from the airport for €6 per person. They even have shuttle service to and from Rome for €12. It suited us perfectly.
Thanks Ken and Norma! Diana, the direct link for that list is Hotels and B&B's near the FCO Airport. I would encourage you - if possible - to stay in the city Rome on your last night.... and not the airport. There's no substitute for an evening walking in Rome and you can certainly arrange a shuttle, take a taxi, or ride the trains or buses out to the airport, depending on when you need to depart from FCO. It's been said that once you're out at the airport, you're Italian vacation is over... as there are limited options in Fiumicino. But if you have a rental car - or you've already been to Rome and you're winding up an extended vacation - certainly a Fiumicino hotel with a shuttle provides convenience - Good Luck!
I often stay at Ibis hotels, when I need something close to an airport or train station. They are predictable, clean, and inexpensive, w reasonable restaurant/cafe and usually wifi. I've not stayed at the hotel they list for the Rome airport, but you could check ratings (and location) at Trip Advisor.
We just came back from beautiful Italy. We spent three night at Residenza Frattina in the heart of Rome. They arranged for transportation to the airport the morning of our flight. I agree with the above post...."When you're at the airport ....your Italian vacation is over!"
