Hotel Near FCO Airport?

Can someone recommend a decent but reasonably priced hotel near the airport? We need to stay overnight, then return to airport to be picked up by a tour company the next morning. Thanks.

There is a Hilton directly off one of the terminals. This would certainly be your closest bet. I have come across it before when searching hotels in Rome and I want to say it usually runs around 100euro when it comes up in the search. I have never stayed there so I can't comment on the quality of the hotel.

Would not recommend staying at a FCO-area hotel. We did that once, never again. It is just like being in a hotel somewhere in the US that is technically located in Italy. There is nothing to do outside the hotel so you can't wander/explore the way you could if you were staying in Rome. You are captive to the hotel so you'll be eating in their overpriced restaurants. The only reason I could see to stay in one is if you have a very early flight, and even then I'd stay in Rome and pay the taxi fare in the morning.

I'm guessing you are flying in to FCO and then start your tour the next morning. If I were in your shoes I'd take the Leonardo Express train into Rome and stay at a hotel within walking distance of the train station (the RS book recommends several). Put your bags in the room and walk around, enjoy a few sights, get a gelato, have dinner. Take the train back to the airport the next morning. They run 2x an hour, 30 minute ride.

I stayed in Hilton at the airport. We had a very early morning departure so it was convenient. Just a walk to the airport. No waiting for taxi or shuttle. You can get to downtown Rome by Leonardo Express. Hotel also has its own shuttle bus going to downtown and back if I remember correctly every two hours. The bus is complimentary for guests of Hilton. If you need to be at the airport early in the morning you can consider this hotel.

I have to disagree with the advice given so far. The Hilton located at one of the terminals runs quite a bit more than 100 euros; when I checked it out a couple of years ago, it was more like $300/night. It also gets rather mediocre reviews. If you stayed there, you would be limited to its restaurant and without anything to do. There are, however, several well-rated small hotels and b&b's in the town of Fiumicino. We stayed at one the night before our homeward flight a few years ago. We enjoyed walking around the town, and had a nice meal in one of its many restaurants. I can't remember the exact name of our hotel, but it was something like Hotel Al Porticciolo. I think we paid about 100 euros, which included a good breakfast.. I'm sure you can find it and other recommended lodgings on Trip Advisor. I wouldn't bother with the hassle of going into Rome just for the night, only to go back out in the morning.

We stayed at the Aquamarina B & B in Fiumicino back in 2012. It was nice ,clean and quiet and about a block from the ocean. There is a boardwalk along the sea as well as many bars and restaurants(wonderful seafood). Walk down to where the fishing boats come in and check out the days catch. We paid less than $100 USD, and about $15-20 cab fare to/from FCO. The owner's name and main contact is Anna, good to communicate with. I believe I found this BnB on trip advisor.

If you want to stay in Rome proper, given the circumstances, I would stay near the Termini station, so that the next morning you can take the Leonardo Express back (Euro 14 per person one way). The taxi from/to Rome city center is Euro 48 flat fee.
Near the airport the Hilton is the most convenient but pricey.
Fiumicino is a more reasonable alternative. It's about 10-15 min. by car/taxi to go back to the airport, although I think there are also buses.
But I doubt a hotel in Fiumicino would be just a block from the ocean as Dona said. The closest ocean is the Atlantic Ocean, and it's thousands of kilometers away in Portugal. I'm afraid that the sea (the Tyrrhenian Sea) is all you'll get to see from Fiumicino

Many will tell you to go on into Rome to spend that night. I'm not one of them.

I recommend the Hotel Tiber in Fiumicino -- http://www.hoteltiberfiumicino.it/en/. It is a modern hotel right across the street from salt water, yes the Tyrrhenian Sea, the eastern part of the Mediterranean. They have nice rooms, a good breakfast and plenty of charming walking along the street with the fishing boats on the other side. There are lots of good restaurants within easy walking distance along that street. I would not recommend the restaurant in the hotel.

For something relatively fast and cheap, I do recommend Gepagi, (http://www.pizzeriagepagi.it/index.php), a pizzeria with the best fried calamari I have ever eaten. Click on "Il Cartoccio" to see a picture of it in paper cones. One cone is enough for 2 people, especially if you share something else. Walk up to the counter, pick what you want, order it and pay and they will bring it to you.

The hotel has a shuttle that charges EUR 6 per person, each way to and from the airport. It takes about 10 minutes, if you have the driver we had. This is the link to the info about the shuttle from their webpage -- http://www.hoteltiberfiumicino.it/en/position-hotel-tiber-fiumicino-roma.html. Scroll down the page for information on shuttle times. Note the phone number to call. They will pick you up at different times than those listed if you call. You can also call the hotel to arrange a pickup. The pick up point is right in the area where the tour buses park. They will drop you off where ever you need to be dropped off to meet your tour, which is likely to be in the same area. And the hotel is likely to let you check in early if needed. Ask for a room with a view of the water.

We were stuck in Fiumicino several days in early November (standby passengers) and they treated us great.

If I'd already "done Rome" and had an early trip to the airport in the morning, I'd stay near the airport. I've done BOTH!
Stayed in Rome for that precious last day when I hadn't had enough near Termini (hated the neighborhood) , and on
our last trip stayed at one of the hotels near the airport when
we were just plain finished with the trip. Whatever you prefer.

We stayed at a Best Western near the airport last time and used points. It was fine. Not amazing, but clean, and modern and had an airport shuttle to the airport early the next morning which took 15 minutes and cost eu20. But the Hotel was free using points.

It is your choice.

Hotel prices always fluctuate. I am not saying the airport Hilton is always 100 euro but I have definitely seen it that price. Staying in the city center has a lot more to do but if I were flying in at night and meeting a tour group early in the morning, I would probably also choose to stay near the airport too.

Another option is a Hilton Garden Inn that has a shuttle service to the airport. And no, I don't work for Hilton. I just have award points to use so I usually check their website first.

The Hilton is a good choice if you can meet your budget. We stayed there (on points) when we had a 5:55 AM flight and it was a nice, easy walk to the terminal. Don't forget to account for your time and travel money if you decide to go into Rome to stay. You could add the cost of transit to/from Rome to the 100 euro budget and probably hit the price of the Hilton.

I had a 6:55 am departure from FCO airport. I stayed at the Seccy Hotel. Quite nice, and there are several nice restaurants within walking distance. Seccy Hotel was very hospitable, spoke English. They arranged a taxi to pick me up at 4:30 am. I think the price was in the €120 range.

Sorry, but the Seccy Hotel price should be in American dollars not Euros. Price was $120
