Hotel Nazionale, Rome question

I should have asked this question long ago or better yet called the hotel - but I didn't and would appreciate thoughts from anyone especially those who have stayed at this hotel in Rome. I booked it based on Rick's review, tripadvisor comments and it's location - an area I'm familiar with - somewhat anyway. I booked 5 nights and sent them 3 follow up emails with questions and requests - simple ones such as could they recommend a restaurant for my husband's birthday that was near the hotel. No response - not to any email! I sent the emails to [email protected]. Now I'm starting to worry - I don't want my husband's 70th to have any glitches! Any advice/recommendations? Has anyone stayed here before who can reassure me? Thanks in advance - this forum is so helpful.

Our relatives stayed there and really liked it. Giolitti, the wonderful gelato place, is very close. As for restaurants, we like Roma Sparita (in Tratevere), Est Artigini del Gusto (near Piazza Navona) and Trattoria Perilli (in Testaccio). Each of these restaurants can be easily reached by walking or by tram. They alll are not super fancy, but have good atmosphere and authentic Roman dishes. We always ask our hotel to make reservations once we're in Rome. We find if we ask for an early reservation time, we can always get one.

Some hotels re raponsive for quesrions, others not so much. Perhaps the front desk staff who answer emails doesn't feel comfortable writing in English. Look at Katie Parla's Rome or Elizabeth Minichelli's EAT ROME apps. They will give information for all dining categories.
What about making a reservation at Armando al Pantheon for his birthday dinner? Or, did you want something much more upscale? They have a website where you can make a reservation.

We stayed there last year. It's a very nice hotel in a fabulous location. There's tons of restaurants around there. We walked less than 5 minutes to a great meal. And then we strolled around into the evening and saw lots of other places that looked great. There were English speakers at the desk when we checked in - if you want a specific recommendation you can ask when you check in. We just did a little Tripadvisor search for what was nearby and were very happy with the results.

My girlfriend and I have stayed at the Nazionale several times and found it to be an excellent choice. Last year we asked the desk for a nearby restaurant recommendation and were directed to a historic one only a five minute walk NNE of the hotel. I can't recall the name but they have many photos of movie stars on the wall who have dined there. Reasonable prices and great food. Another choice nearby is Ristorante da Fortunado very near the Pantheon. Somewhat pricey but great food. If your looking for a very special dinner and price is no object you might consider Magnolia. It is located at the Grand Hotel near the Borghese Gallery and has one Michelin star. Food and service are both excellent.

Thanks all for the suggestions and reassurances! I did make a reservation at what seems to be a lovely restaurant and now I have other options in my back pocket. Grazie and ciao.
